Autocad Tips

Ortho & Holding the shift key - When using any AutoCAD command with Ortho turned on or off, hold down the Shift Key to temporarily turn Ortho on or off.  This should work for any command that creates or modifies an object.

Extend & Trim in one - While the Extend command is activated, press and hold the shift key to convert to the Trim command.  The same goes for Trim command.

The New 3D Orbit - Starting in AutoCAD 2007, Autodesk greatly improved the 3D Orbit command.  While you are in a 2D drawing, hold the Shift Key and the scroll wheel on your mouse to activate 3D Orbit.

Miss the Old Text Editor? - Still can't get used to the new text editor or just like the old text editor better?  Type "mtexted" then type "oldeditor" to activate the pre-2004 mtext editor. This editor does not rotate while editing rotated text. This editor does have less functions than that of the new editors.  To convert back to the new text editor, type "mtexted" then type "internal".  This problem has been fixed in AutoCAD 2007.

Loading a Lisp File - Need to quickly load a lisp file?  Open windows explorer to directory where your lisp file is located.  Adjust the window size to see the AutoCAD window.  Now drag the lisp file into the AutoCAD drawing window.  You can now enter the command to run you lisp file.
